Cauliflower Fettuccine Alfredo (as seen on Dr. Oz)

When I was in high school, back when I didn’t care about silly things like nutrition and would sometimes have nothing for lunch except a can of Pepsi and a pack of Rolos (shudder), one of my favorite meals was fettuccine alfredo. I loved anything made with cream and cheese and thought nothing of downing a big bowl of dairy and pasta. In later years, classic mac n’ cheese replaced fettuccine as my pasta of choice, and remained one of my regular go-to meals until just a couple of years ago (though I graduated from Kraft to Annie’s organic pasta).

Detox Re-evaluation

I’ve eased up on the detox just slightly; we ate out several times while my friend was in town, and we kept it healthy for the most part, but sometimes it was hard to find gluten-free options. I also allowed myself a couple cups of coffee, but it only made me feel jittery. Guess I’m going to have to order caffeine free the next time I get a coffee craving.

Detox Day 6: Coping with Food Cravings

Today is day six of my detox and I’m feeling … pretty good. Not stupendous or amazing; just … pretty good. Maybe a little above average. The Diet Detective

Ryan and I have recently discovered this great new show called I Want to Save Your Life. It’s on WE (Women’s Entertainment Network), but Ryan found it while browsing through health and fitness show titles on the cable guide. The show features nutrition expert Charles Stuart Platkin, who calls himself the Diet Detective. Platkin ambushes unsuspecting subjects who have been nominated by friends and family members for a diet makeover. The ambush usually occurs during a meal, so Platkin can catch them in the act of chowing down on fatty fried foods or calorie-laden quiche.

Holistic Health Care and Cancer

I wanted to take a minute today and talk about diet as it pertains to cancer. I don’t know why I find the subject so interesting; maybe it’s because I recently had my own brush with cervical dysplasia — a huge motivating factor in my ongoing quest to eat a healthier diet — or maybe it’s because the more I read about natural heath care, the more I see one recurrent theme: certain foods contribute to the growth of cancer cells.
