Homemade almond butter recipe

Almond butter is awesome. It’s a good source of protein and healthy fats, and it tastes great on some apple slices. Plus, almonds can help lower your cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease.

I recently started making my own almond butter. It’s really easy and more cost effective than store-bought brands, plus you don’t have to worry about added preservatives.

All you need are some almonds and a little patience. The entire process (once almonds are roasted) takes about 20 minutes.

Roast your almonds. I use whole blanched almonds, or you could use slivered almonds also. Just put them in the over at 350 degrees until they start to get darker and smell awesome. Let them cool.

Put them in the food processor and start processing.

At first, you’ll get sort of an almond meal.

Keep going. Stop to scrape down the sides and stir things up every once in a while. It may look like nothing is happening for a while.

Eventually, you’ll start to notice a paste-like consistency. Things should start happening more quickly now.

Once everything is good and smooth, keep processing for a few more minutes, until everything is churning around really well in there. The longer you process, the smoother and easier to work with it’ll be.

Give it a try and let me know how it turns out!
