One-week check-in

I’ve been unemployed/self-employed now for a week, so I thought I would check in and let everyone know how things are going. Well, things are going awesomely, thank you very much. Sometimes we don’t realize how bad a situation is for us until it’s behind us. In the case of my former job, I don’t think I realized how much energy it was sucking out of me. Somehow over the course of the past two years, the conditions at work had deteriorated. As you, dear readers, may know, I no longer enjoyed my work. I was not feeling challenged or validated.

Now that I am gone, I am happier than I have been in a long time. I have more energy. I wake up excited to start my day and work on my projects. The future may be uncertain, and the thought of finding enough work to pay the bills can sometimes be scary, but mostly, I am enjoying myself. I am living life on my terms. I have been doing some writing and getting more work from existing clients, but since I should start receiving unemployment (and I have some freelancing income saved up), I haven’t been too worried about income. I am using this time to apply for higher-paying gigs, build my portfolio, update my Web site, join some freelancing communities, and engaging in other activities to build and establish my business.

As everyone has been saying, everything happens for a reason. Being fired may very well have been the best thing that could have happened to me. So no need to worry. I have skills, I have resources, I have a plan, and I have the universe at my back. Yeah, things are awesome.

  1. Wow, how much have I missed in my week away from writing!?! I can’t believe you lost your job – but as you said everything happens for a reason. I have complete faith that you will be just fine, probably even better now that you are getting to do what you really want to do. Now I just need to find the courage to quit my energy sucking job to focus on what I really want to do….
