Freelance earnings for February totaled $125, down from January’s $140. However, I had a $105 assignment in January that was not repeated, so I was able to almost make up for it with Demand Studios articles and other clients. March projections are already at $200, and could increase if I pick up some more assignments. But with my book editing project underway, I doubt I will have time for any extra writing.
But here I go changing my mind again. I’m starting to realize that the best way to earn money with my writing is to start generating passive income through different revenue streams. I’ve been reading a few blogs of people who are doing this — one woman makes around $1500 a month from her ehow articles, plus additional passive income through other sources. Since I’m not dependent on my freelance income right now, it’s a good time to start learning more about this and taking the time to get started. I already have an ebook about earning money on ehow, which I need to finish reading — it all comes down to picking the right subjects to write about and using the right keywords. So far, the only one of my ehow articles to generate any income is my piece on How to Make a Delicious Green Smoothie.
I know I said before that putting time into ehow probably wasn’t worth it right now, but if that kind of earnings potential is out there, I’d be foolish not to investigate. I only wish I had more time! Dropping Demand Studios has helped — yesterday I was able to complete 2 assignments, start researching this week’s AltGlobe post, and start formatting the manuscript that I’m editing. I’m a little worried about the time commitment involved in the editing project, but it will also be a source of passive income once completed, as I will receive royalties from the book for life. So I’ll just have to see how this first one goes, and then decide if I want to edit another. I also need to set aside time to build my new Web site now that my new computer is up and running (yay!). I haven’t even started thinking about the design for my new site yet … maybe I will look into buying a template. Trying to learn CSS and designing my own site in the midst of everything else I have going on right now just sounds like too much!

I think online writing can be an excellent primary or secondary income source.
P.S. Don’t forget Feb. is a few days shorter than Jan. so you have an excuse!
I have recently decided to spend more time building up my eHow account too. I am always amazed when I hear people say they make that much, but it is worth a try. Also, you might want to check out Associated Content. There you actually have the option to put your article up for sale and still earn residual income from it (I have sold a few and am still earning on them). Plus, I have made more money there from the same amount of views on my articles compared to eHow.
