Yesterday I found a very cool Web design template in CSS that I decided to download and play around with for my new site (it was free, which was surprising, because it’s a lot more unique and creative than most free templates I have seen). I spent the entire evening playing around with the code and trying to figure out how to lay out my new site. I didn’t expect to get much done last night as I am new to the world of CSS, but I wanted to put together a basic layout so I could get an idea of how it would look (which I did accomplish, but I’m not sharing it yet because it is going to change drastically).
I went to bed still thinking about it, and some new ideas for the home page layout popped into my head this morning. As I continued to reflect on the navigation and function of the site, I realized something: I have so far been viewing my site as a tool for showcasing my writing work and simplifying the job application process. But I wasn’t giving much thought to using my site as a selling tool. A good Web site should do both. (Yeah, I work in marketing, I should know these things. I guess I just hadn’t really thought it through yet.)
So now I have a plan for linking my services across the header and my portfolio down the right side of the page. Which is, um, exactly how the template is set up. Imagine that. I’m just about bursting out of my skin for this day to pass so I can get started on it. Fortunately, it’s Friday, and Ryan and B are going camping/rock climbing in Arkansas this weekend, which means I’ll have the next two days to myself to geek out in front of the computer.
Expect to see my new and improved Web site soon!

Sounds exciting! I can’t wait to see it!
